Project: Gabriel

Sunday of May 01, 2016

Gabriel has fallen from heaven, and is trying to fly back to heaven. Gabriel needs to avoid obstacles. In terms of gameplay, Gabriel is an endless jumper game, which allows you to collect hearts as life points, while trying to avoid the traps appearing in the walls and rocks falling from the sky.

  • Project Objectives:
    1. Facebook and twitter share for pinoypixel
    2. Scirra arcade score posting
    3. Basic endless jumper
  • Game Features: Not much. Jump! Jump! achieve the highest points.
  • Graphics: 16 bit open creative content pixel art.
  • Production Time: approximately 12 work hours

Check out the game above, share your thoughts and drop some feedbacks in the scirra arcade comments section.

Playable modal popup

Saturday of April 09, 2016

After the quick launch, I realize it is difficult to play the game in a mobile device. I added three options to allow the games to be playable. The first one is through modal popup, second is through Scirra arcade and third is through a new screen window. Modal popup is ideal for mobile and pc use, Scirra arcade is ideal if you have Scirra account and a new window popup is to simulate a full screen view.

Reduce.. Reduce.. Reduce..

Saturday of March 05, 2016

Reduce, reduce and reduce the project until the core game play. Drop the optional features and display what really makes the game enjoyable. These statements are easier said than done, and I am sure a lot of blog discussion is already written about this so I won't rephrase their details. Everyone wants to build their own dream game, who doesn't? I'll discuss game development in a different approach. Making games or any project is like going to a battle, you need to define your objectives and assess if you achieve these objectives. You have a limited set of resources which are the following:

  1. time (most people thinks they have a lot of these)
  2. capability (whether you are an artist or developer)
  3. experience (experience and judgement do pay off)

As I start writing and doing this hobby, I will be releasing a couple of half baked games due to time, capability and experience issues. But for every release I will be discussing my Project Objectives, Game Features and Production Time. These metrics can help me assess my future projects.

Welcome to Pinoypixel

Monday of February 01, 2016

Pinoypixel is my personal game development blog. It contain trial, demo and some finished prototypes. As a starting game developer and hobbiest I develop games only during spare time, thus limiting the types of projects I can work on. Most of the games that I develop are done using Construct 2 which has a Html5 core engine. Some games posted might also be written in Unity or in Flash.

This blog basically contains my journey and learnings in developing games using Scirra Construct 2 and Unity 5. Eventually I might try to use new tools along the way.
